Modern day world cricket seems to have been played by these terms.
Cricket has lost its pristine tradition when it was played
with right spirit and attitude. However, due to commercialisation of sports,
the players have become more competent and even the greed for success is
immense. This has resulted in players resorting to tactics which have been
termed unfair.
Take instance for the controversy linked with match-fixing.
Many allegations were made and names of those supposed to be involved were
revealed. But the cases were dismissed on the circumstantial evidences. Then
came another case of cricketers accepting and offering bribes to throw away
matches. A judicial had been ordered against them but lack of evidence proved
them not guilty.
All these issues have tarnished the images of the game to a
large extent. The game which was once called- “THE GENTLEMAN’S GAME” has lost
its true meaning. We can only hope that the game would return to its pristine
glory.
